Rough Apatite on Calcite Matrix on Metal Stand

Rough blue-green apatite crystals sitting in a white calcite matrix, supplied on a metal display stand, averaging 5 to 6 inches overall. Apatite takes its name from the Greek apatáō, to deceive — in rough form it is easily mistaken for other minerals.

Gem-quality apatite is uncommon; most of what is mined goes to phosphate. Size, shape and colour vary, so yours will be comparable to those photographed rather than identical.
